GRAND DESIGNS KITCHEN

A stunning contemporary kitchen designed and installed by Kitchenkind Cheltenham has featured on
the first programme of the new series of Grand Designs on Channel 4.

The programme which was shown on 16th January featured the new house built by Tim and Zoe Bawtree in the grounds of their former period home in Cheltenham. Planning restrictions meant that
the new house could only be two storeys high so Tim and Zoe went underground and created their kitchen and all of their living space below ground.

CREATURE COMFORTS ARTICLE

It might seem unusual to design a new kitchen around your dogs, but that’s what animal-mad Andy and Michele Young did. “We have a Golden Retriever called Max, a Border Collie, Chess, and a Labrador Lurcher cross, Slim Shady. We needed a kitchen that was tough enough to cope with these
large breeds, and enough space for them to sleep when we’re out during the day,” says Andy.

Situated in Gloucestershire with breathtaking views across the Severn Valley, their 1970s home is close to beautiful countryside walks along The Cotswold Way, regularly enjoyed by Andy and Michele – and the dogs, of course.

A WARM WELCOME

There’s a rather special history to Karen Moore and Mike Conway’s home. It was originally built in
1870 as a coach house, so that travellers on their way from Oxford to Cheltenham could rest with their horses, change their clothes and ride into town looking smart.

EAST MEETS WEST

After just a few months of living in their newly remodelled house in Hong Kong,Adamand Catherine
Schallamach – along with children Benedict, eight, Oliver, five, plus Wiggy the cat, and Labradors Crumble and Brulée –were facedwith the prospect of moving back to the UK forwork reasons.
Having invested in the property’s extensive renovation, financially and emotionally, it was
something of a wrench, but luckily they found a family home that seemed just right for them.

The contrast between the traditional, limed oak of Pauline and Pete Turfrey’s previous kitchen
and the striking crimson cabinets and sleek white worktops of their new scheme is nothing short
of startling. ‘I don’t think there’s a single person who hasn’t walked in and been stunned,’
smiles Pauline.
