There is no doubt that a solid wood worktop can look charming in any kitchen offering a sense of warmth and natural beauty. However, wooden worktops require a lot of TLC to ensure they age well and maintain their anti-bacterial quality.
Often with modern day life we do not have the time to put in the level of TLC required to ensure a wooden worktop maintains its integrity.
For example.
Requires regular sealing- A wooden worktop will require regular oiling to maintain its condition. Without regular sealant it can become porous allowing for germs to harbour more readily.
Water Damage- Again if the wooden worktop is not sealed regularly, water damage can occur causing swelling and black marks.
Scratched, stained, and dented– Wood is softer in property than other surfaces so care must be taken not to cut directly on its surface. If food and drink spillages are not cleaned up immediately, permanent marks can be left on the wood surface which will require sanding to remove.
Scorch Marks- are unavoidable unless you are wonderfully careful where you place super- hot pans. Scorch marks and stains can be removed with sanding of the wooden worktop, but you must remember to seal following sanding.
Kitchen Kind recently met with a local customer who needed a solution for their wooden worktop. Over the years temporary solutions were utilised for a ‘quick fix’. However, this kitchen was left with a black mouldy wooden sink area and a multi- level, multi- product, tiled, laminate surface to overcome the scorch marks and stains over time.
Kitchen Kind were able to provide a solution. A solution that maintained the integrity and charm of the kitchen, without disrupting the existing tiles or units. Kitchen Kind are proud to supply Australian made Earthstone. The most advanced and durable quartz surface in the marketplace.
