January was named after the Roman God Janus, the god of doorways. Therefore, perhaps a month of two sides; the closing of one year and the beginning of a new. We are entering the second half of January; we have tidied all our festive belongings away and are now planning for the months and years ahead. It maybe you are looking towards home improvements and the planning phase during these colder early months of the year. Knowing and understanding colour and what is going to remain a stable and achieve longevity throughout time will provide a sound reference point to start planning a renovation project no matter how big or small.

Colour 2020

Colours for 2020 carry with it a stable that has been with us a few years now NAVAL BLUE. A timeless classic, a daring proud colour offering elegance as well as bold aspects to a room. Complimenting the bravery of the blue we will see WARM PASTELS bringing a sense of affection and earthy tones to a room. This can be complimented by richer earthy tones such as rusty rich CORAL and mustard YELLOW works in unison with organic forms such as natural flora, wood tones and spontaneous textures offering a complimentary sense of airy calm to a room. Finally, we will see moody, rich TEAL offering flexibility in terms of pairing with almost any colour but at the same time offering a sense of emotion and spirit. You may think that’s all very well knowing the colours for the year ahead. But what next? How do we take this colour and apply it to a room? The Golden Colour Rule

The golden colour rule provides the most balanced, appealing look and should comprise of the 3-colour pallet regime; a dominant colour (60%), secondary colour (30%) and the accent colour (10%). It is the accent colour that can really influence the feel and mood of a room. Through adopting the ‘Golden Colour Rule’ you can be sure to keep your home in keeping with modern times. It is important to remember this is a guide and you may wish to use two accent colours. This can be achieved through utilising two complimentary colours or using textiles patterns and textures to create further balance and depth to a room.
